Larry Moneta, came to our agency to design his latest book. He was looking for modern design that differed from the all of the other higher education publications available.
In an attempt to move away from the traditional “higher education” look, we used dark photography in contrast with simple vector shapes with bright gradients of complimentary colors. This helped to guide the reader’s eye through the book while maintaining consistency. Oversized typography is used on the cover as well as on chapter title pages to give the reader a clear indicator as to their position in the document. Similar to how the photography and vector shapes contrast and complement each other, outlined diagonal bars are used throughout the document in tandem with the oversized typography. These bars also help give movement to the static pages and keep the reader’s eye moving.
